The Kuala Tanjung logistics railway line located in Bandar Tinggi has been operating since early 2022. In the initial stage, operations will begin with pioneer trains and will then be followed by the operation of logistics trains.
The construction of a logistics railway line in Kuala Tanjung is a strategic step taken by the Indonesian government to improve the efficiency of goods transportation in the region. This railway line is designed to connect the port of Kuala Tanjung with various industrial and distribution centers in North Sumatra, thereby accelerating the process of shipping goods and reducing logistics costs. With modern infrastructure and large transport capacity, this railway line is expected to become the backbone of the logistics system in the region.
In addition to increasing efficiency, the Kuala Tanjung railway line is also expected to support regional economic growth. With a faster and more reliable transportation route, industries in North Sumatra can more easily access domestic and international markets. This will encourage increased investment and the creation of new jobs in the region. The government is also committed to continuing to develop other logistics infrastructure, such as highways and ports, to support better integration of the transportation system.
“The construction of this railway is not just being built, but it is planned that in January or early this year a pioneer train will be operated and followed by the operation of a logistics train,” said Director of Railway Infrastructure, Harno Trimadi during a working visit by a member of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDI Perjuangan Faction, at Tanjung Gading Station, Batubara Regency, North Sumatra, Thursday.

“Regarding future developments, we want to see this operated first. So after we operate it, we will see, whether we want to develop it or not,” he said.
Currently, Batubara Regency has been designated as a national strategic area with the construction of the Kuala Tanjung International Hub Port and the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Area. Therefore, the Batubara Regency Government certainly needs infrastructure support, both road networks, railway networks and sea transportation shipping networks.
